Unhealthy and Abusive
Relationships


If you are being abused deal with the problem immediately by:

  • Telling your date you are going to leave unless he or she gets help.
  • Talk to someone you can trust.
  • Breaking off the relationship if your date continues to be abusive.

If your friend is being abused:

  • Be supportive and listen to what they have to say.
  • Tell your friend that he or she does not deserve the abuse.
  • Offer to go with your friend to get help.
  • Be patient; it can take time for your friend to make changes.

If you are abusing:

  • Don't wait until you hurt someone you love.
  • Find a counselor to talk to with who can help you with the problem.
  • Remember abuse is a learned behavior and you can change it.

If your friend is abusing someone:

  • Tell your friend his/her behavior is wrong.
  • Offer to go with your friend to a counselor who can help with the problem.

  • A peer group
  • Your Mom and Dad
  • A relative you trust
  • A counselor
  • A nurse, doctor or other professional
  • An internet support group

Everyone has Rights in Relationships

  • Trust yourself and your inner instincts.
  • Be respected as a person.
  • Change your mind.
  • Express your feelings.
  • Not to be physically, emotionally or sexually abused.
  • Stay away from someone who makes you feel bad.
